Backwoods Distilling Co.

Backwoods Distilling Co. was founded by Leigh and Bree Attwood in 2017. A love of whisky, science and craftiness evolved into a dream to open a distillery.

Backwoods is the culmination of this dream, their goal is to bring friends and family together over a boutique drink that celebrates the Victorian High Country region.

Backwoods have a range of small batch, craft whiskeys as well as a gin on the menu. Depending on when you read this you may also want to try the red gum whiskey aged in red gum barrels.

You can book a 60 min tasting session in their working distillery with views of our copper stills. Chat with the Backwoods team about how they craft their spirits and learn about the grains, casks and the botanicals they choose for their whisky and gin creations.

Soon Backwoods will be offering 90min distillery tour and tasting as well as a 6 hour Distiller for a day, where you can spend a day in the distillery with Backwoods Founder and Distiller, Leigh Attwood. Assist with a mash, learn how they run our ferments and take tests on the distillation run.

Yackandandah is a quaint village located in the valleys of the Stanley State Forest in North East Victoria.

A 45 minute drive from Wangaratta off the Hume Hwy via Beechworth, you will not day trip here from Melbourne but its well worth a weekend away and while doing so stopping in to see the team at Backwoods.
