Australian distillers take home medals at the 2023 San Francisco WSC

In a stunning showcase of the country’s distilling prowess, Australian distillers have won multiple medals at the 2023 San Francisco World Spirits Competition. This annual competition is widely regarded as the most prestigious event in the spirits industry, and this year’s results were particularly noteworthy.

Australian distillers have been making waves in the global spirits industry in recent years, with a growing number of small-batch producers crafting unique and innovative spirits. This success has been fueled by a combination of factors, including the country’s high-quality agricultural produce, a focus on sustainability, and a willingness to experiment with new and unconventional ingredients.

The San Francisco World Spirits Competition is an important platform for these distillers to showcase their creations to a global audience. This year’s competition featured over 5,500 entries from distilleries around the world, making it one of the largest and most competitive events of its kind.

Held over four days at Hotel Nikko in San Francisco from April 13 – 15, the standout performers Wharf St Distillery and Ginny Pig Distillery were not only awarded Double Gold in the Gin category, but both were selected as one of the three Best in Class finalists.

The ultimate winner of the Best in Class and Best Overall Gin awards will be announced at the Top Shelf Awards Gala and Grand Tasting on June 16 and 17 at Resorts World in Las Vegas.

Australian distillers took home 31 double gold medals, 53 gold medals, a massive 108 silver medals and 47 bronze medals.

The highest number went to Coburns in New South Wales with 15 medals and Archie Rose who took home 14 medals, Four Pillars from the Yarra Valley in Victoria took home 11 plus many many more distilleries took home medals.

This success also highlights the growing global demand for high-quality and unique spirits, as consumers become increasingly interested in exploring new and innovative flavor profiles. Australian distillers are well-positioned to capitalize on this trend, with their focus on sustainability, innovation, and quality making them stand out in a crowded and competitive market.
